CERTIFIED Makeup Artist..
One week ago today, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a live makeup demonstration hosted by the talented Hosway Martinez, owner and CEO of Master Makeup Academy - Los Angeles, in my hometown of Chicago, IL.
The event took place at the stylish ALoft Magnificent Mile, right in the heart of downtown. The urban luxe scenery provided the perfect backdrop for an evening dedicated to beauty and artistry. It was exciting to be surrounded by fellow makeup enthusiasts, all eager to soak in the expertise.
Walking into the ALoft, I was immediately struck by the vibrant atmosphere. The modern decor and chic ambiance set the mood for what was sure to be an amazing experience.
Watching him work his magic was nothing short of inspiring. His personality shone through every step of the demonstration, and his genuine passion for the craft was palpable. It was a privilege to witness a celebrity makeup artist at work, showcasing not just technique but also creativity and flair.
I came about booking a seat for the class after seeing it once, or five times on Instagram (cause clearly his marketing is on fucking point?!). and since I have the suppressed feeling of FOMO after not landing the position at MAC Cosmetics here in Nashville… nor was I able to walk in my own college graduation ceremony… I thought maybe taking a certification class that would grant me a cute diploma and discount to match.
To say the least, attending this live makeup demo was an unforgettable experience. I left feeling inspired and motivated to elevate my own makeup journey, equipped with new knowledge and a renewed passion for beauty.As the event came to a close, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I am thankful for the opportunity to learn from someone so skilled and charismatic. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for makeup artistry but also encouraged me to invest in my own craft with the same dedication that Hosway exemplified.

One of the standout moments was when Hosway showed us his kit, and then shared a crucial tip that resonated deeply with me: the importance of having luxury products in your kit. He emphasized that while you may not always use them, having these high-quality items on display can elevate your overall presentation and professionalism.
This insight really made me rethink how I curate my own makeup collection and the impression it conveys.
I do have a vlog in the works! Of course I basically filmed an entire production to commemorate the moment and recall my favorite tips. But don’t expect any direct gem dropping, because that’s the entire point of my $299 investment in the course!
I do believe though, if you’re not able to attend the Live course, it’s always worth checking to see if the artist or company offers anything online. Luckily for me, I am from a major city that they so happened to include in their the 2024 Tour - but I would’ve opted for the online course and kit… and honestly I fucking should’ve because my family life is DRAMA.
